This used Meyn opener is designed to work directly ahead of the eviscerator, making the abdominal cut that gives access to the internal organs. Where the vent cutter opens the cloaca area, the opener takes the next step, cutting the carcass open so the eviscerator can pull the viscera cleanly and completely in the following stage. The machine runs up to 15,000 birds per hour.
Getting this cut right matters more than it might seem. Too shallow and the eviscerator struggles to extract organs fully; too deep and you risk damaging the carcass or contaminating the product. A well maintained opener keeps this consistent across every bird, which keeps the whole evisceration stage running at speed without extra manual correction.
